So with only a few hundred miles on our 2017 Jeep Wrangler Smoky Mountain Edition, we decided what better time than now to start modding it. The first issue we wanted to see get fixed was the Pedal Lag! WOW! That lag sucks big time and we're glad to share with you on how to get rid of it.
A company called JMS makes a very neat little upgrade for around $300.00 called the PedalMax. What this little wonder does is eliminate the pedal lag and we must say it does what it says! After we installed this little mod our first impression is dang! It does what it says and all the pedal lag is gone. The Jeep now gets up and goes. No more dead pedal!
Install is very straight forward and on a scale of 1 to 10, we would say a 3 to install it and only takes about 15 minutes to install.
Directions:
Step 1: Connect the Assembly: Attach the black PedalMAX device to the wiring harness. Plug it into the 25-pin connector and secure it with the two small screws. Use the supplied screwdriver.
Step 2: Important: Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before installing this product. If you do not disconnect the battery the factory computer will not learn the correct starting pedal position.
Step 3: Locate the pedal position sensor assembly. It is located on the top of the accelerator pedal.
Step 4: Unplug the wiring harness from the pedal position sensor. Note: To separate the connector from the sensor: press the black tab down to remove the connector.
Step 5: Plug the PedalMAX device inline between the pedal position sensor and OE wiring harness by connecting the male and female PedalMAX connectors to the Original Factory connector and sensor.
Step 6: Secure the PedalMAX unit using the (2) supplied cable ties. The device should not be hanging loosely or unsecured. Do not attach or mount to any moving assemblies such as the steering column. Do not attach or mount to the air conditioning return line shown in the image, this line is extremely hot under operating conditions!
Step 7: Test the device ? Once the device is installed and secured, insert the ignition key, and start the vehicle. Let the vehicle idle, and look at the device to make sure the green LED is illuminated, which alerts you that the device is active and functioning.
Step 8: Test drive the vehicle ? Drive the vehicle under normal conditions. You should notice a significant improvement in throttle responsiveness and acceleration

Eliminates Pedal Lag. The drive by wire gas pedal of the 2007-2017 Jeep Wrangler is well known for lag. You have most likely noticed a delay in throttle response when speeding up to merge with traffic or when trying to feather the throttle to navigate up a rocky trail. On older Wranglers, the gas pedal was attached to a mechanical cable that ran to the throttle body or carburetor to provide instant feedback. However, on modern Jeeps, the accelerator pedal is electronically controlled, similar to a dimmer switch, which has to send the signal to the ECU, which in turn sends the signal to the throttle body causing this momentary delay. To eliminate this annoying delay JMS created their PedalMAX Electronic Throttle Enhancement Device.
Maximum Throttle Response. Out of the box, the PedalMAX Throttle Enhancer is preset to provide maximum increase in throttle response. If you find the stock setting to be too aggressive for your driving needs you can insert the supplied 4-pin RED de-sensitizing plug into the device. The RED de-sensitizing plug will reset throttle response to about 60% of the maximum setting. However, with the optional Remote Throttle Control Knob (part# BX-6999) you can adjust throttle response from zero to maximum or anywhere in between to match your specific driving style.
Stackable. The JMS PedalMAX can be stacked or used in conjunction with other aftermarket OBD-II programmers and monitors such as: SCT, Diablosport, Hypertech, Superchips, Bully Dog, and Edge as well as JMS' own BoostMAX Performance Booster.
Modern Electronics. The PedalMAX Drive By Wire Throttle Enhancement Device features JMS's exclusive state of the art digital technology housed in a proprietary sealed enclosure. The PedalMAX comes complete with plug and play wiring harness using OEM connectors for a quick installation.
Easy Plug & Play Installation. The PedalMAX Throttle Enhancer simply connects to the factory stock pedal position sensor using an OEM style connector with no permanent modifications required. PedalMAX is 100% reversible making it warranty friendly.
